ATTACHMENT BUYING GUIDE

What Size Skid Steer Bucket Do I Need?

Bucket width is only one part of choosing the right bucket. Capacity, material weight, cutting edge, machine width, rated operating capacity, and the job itself all affect how useful a bucket will be.

01

Start with machine width

For general material work, many owners prefer a bucket that covers the machine's tire or track width. That helps with cleanup and reduces the chance of driving over material left outside the bucket path.

02

Material density changes everything

A large bucket full of mulch is very different from the same bucket full of wet soil, gravel, or rock. Dense materials can reach the loader's practical capacity long before the bucket is visibly full.

03

Capacity and leverage matter

High-capacity and long-floor buckets move the load center farther forward. Consider attachment weight, bucket volume, material weight, and the loader's rated operating capacity together.

04

Match the edge to the work

A smooth edge is useful for cleanup and handling loose material. Tooth buckets or more aggressive cutting edges can be better for digging and breaking into compacted material.
